Winter garden

I love my windowsill garden. It is awesome to see how the plants grow.

Winter is not a very good season to have plants in the garden. But for every problem, there is a perfect solution!

I planted my small winter garden on the windowsill. It's not very big (yet) but I have my favorites radish sprouts, chives and basil.

I like adding the sprouts or chives to my scrambled eggs and sandwiches. It gives extra flavor!

Gyoza dumplings

We prepared Japanese dumplings Gyoza.

We found these delicious pre-prepared dumplings in the supermarket. First, we fried the dumplings on a flat side in the small pan till create a crispy skin. Then, we added a little bit of water and sealed with a lid. We wait until the upper part of the dumplings were steamed. 10 minutes and ready to eat!

The dumplings had a filling of chicken and vegetables. We enjoyed them with soy sauce.

Did you know that Gyoza share similarities with pierogi and spring rolls? Did you know that they are cooked in the same way as pierogi, either boiled or fried?

Fish and chips

We prepared fish and chips, a classic British recipe.

Fish is one of my favorite foods. So, when we saw coalfish (pollock) in the store, I knew that our next lunch would be fish and chips.

We prepared our chips, wedge style. We cut the fish in stripes, dust in flour and fried. And the plate was ready to eat. We traveled to the heart of London.

Did you know that British fish and chips were originally served wrapped in old newspapers? You could have lunch while reading the news!

In Polish they are known as "jajecznica" - comes from "jajko" which is egg. In Spanish they are known as "huevos revueltos" - comes from "huevo" which is egg.

How are they called in your country?

Pasta with pesto

We prepared pasta with salmon, dried tomatoes and pesto.

Green pesto or pesto alla genovese is a typical Italian sauce made of basil, garlic, pine nuts and hard cheese blended with oil olive. It is one of the most traditional Italian sauces, with Bolognese and some others. Pesto originated in Genoa, the capital of the region of Liguria.

Did you know that the word pesto comes from the verb "to pound/crush"? Pesto comes to mean something like "ingredients crushed".

Hígado encebollado

We prepared "hígado encebollado" (textual in English: onioned liver). A typical Spanish recipe.

If you like meat, you must to try this, a very intense and unique flavor. The key for its tastiness is to make the meat really tender. It will practically dissolve in your mouth, invading it with its flavors.

We accompanied it with boiled potatoes, lightly salted and sprinkled with few drops of oil.

If you are not hungry yet… I already want to prepare more!

The liver meat has a very unique and distinctive flavor. In a blind tasting, you would probably have difficulty differentiating between a tenderloin and a round. But you would quickly identify the liver.

Hands up! This is tasty!

Chocolate cake

We prepared chocolate cake!!

This is some of the most powerful magic: object transmutation. Get a chocolate bar, flour, butter, and voila! a marvelous chocolate cake appears!

Take your seats. The show is about to start! Alakazim alakazam!

Did you know that in ancient times some people were convinced they could make gold or precious stones by mixing the right ingredients? Mixing metals, objects and substances to get others was called alchemy. It was the origin of our modern chemistry.

Mixing the right ingredients to get tasty food is what I call magic!

Tortelloni with red pepper

We prepared tortelloni with red pepper and onion.

We saw fresh made spinach and cheese tortelloni in the store and could not resist the temptation. We prepared them with red pepper and onion cut in very small dices and a sauce based on olive oil and garlic.

Tortellini are delicious pasta rings. They are filled with many different ingredients: beef, chicken, cheese, spinach, dried tomatoes and many others.

Did you know that there are 2 sizes of tortellini? Small ones are called tortellini, they weight around 2 grams. Large ones are called tortelloni, they weight around 5 grams. They look very similar, but in a closer look, you will notice that their shape is slightly different and they are closed differently.

Also they are typically served differently. Tortelloni (the larger) are eaten alone with some butter spread or with a very light sauce. While, tortellini (the smaller) are eaten in soup or with some Italian elaborated sauce: Bolognese, Carbonara, Marinara, etc.
